7. Conclusion
The major source of rubber products comes from used tires that cannot be reused. The consistency of their composition, if we take care to separate passenger and truck tires, makes them a genuine secondary raw material. When it comes to manufacturing waste, the business model is different.
There are three possible reusable products: rubber powders, reclaimed rubber and carbon black from pyrolysis operations. These products, whatever their form, can be used in raw rubber formulations, to make products using up to 100% of these products, or in cutting semi-crystalline thermoplastics to make impact plastics or thermoplastic elastomers. Products derived from these recycling operations, such as pyrolysis oils, are used as raw materials to make carbon blacks (like commercial carbon blacks). These pyrolysis oils can also be used to fuel steam crackers.
