However, these properties can lead to the accumulation of persistent waste in the environment if PU materials are not properly disposed of. PU consumption generates around 3 Mt of PU waste every year in Europe . Historically, three main methods of PU waste disposal have been used: landfill (50%), incineration (45%) and recycling (5%).
