As already mentioned, polyols are essential components used as reagents in polyurethane synthesis. They can be derived from renewable resources, offering an alternative to raw materials of petroleum origin. This section presents biobased polyols developed in both the academic and industrial sectors, and examines the properties of the resulting polymers. Biobased polyols fall into two broad categories: molecular polyols and macromolecular polyols.
