5. Variability of emissions with modification of odor impact

Olfactometric measurements carried out at the various anaerobic digestion sites have shown that the concentration ranges encountered are relatively low. However, some very specific activities can give rise to much higher odor concentrations and cause a nuisance for the site's neighbors.

  • For example, on an on-farm methanization site, the storage of liquid digestates can generate an increase in odorous emissions when this liquid is put back into motion by mechanical agitation or by the simple flow of the liquid between the point of arrival in the tank and the surface, as shown in figure 12 .
