6. Conclusion

The electrolysis of water has developed as a means of obtaining high-purity hydrogen and oxygen. The worsening energy and climate context has led to renewed interest in the electrolytic production of hydrogen in very large quantities, on the one hand from renewable energy sources, and on the other from nuclear energy, itself synonymous with a reduced carbon footprint. This increasingly massive production now represents a real challenge to be met without delay, since it will have to accompany the growing use of hydrogen fuel with the best possible synergy, without prejudice to the potential use of hydrogen as a buffer storage for intermittent renewable energies.

Such massive production cannot be ensured in the short or long term on a one-off basis, and new avenues of production therefore remain to be developed or explored, for example that of water dissociation,...
