This study analyzes the Circular Economy (CE) evolution within the EU’s regulatory framework, focusing on Electric Vehicle Lithium-Ion Batteries (EV-LIBs). It reviews CE-related policies, especially Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, addressing sustainable management of EV-LIBs. Key roles of industry stakeholders, challenges, and innovations in EV-LIBs sector are examined, highlighting Research and Development’s role in sustainable technology and lifecycle management. The importance of stakeholder collaboration in advancing CE principles is also emphasized, contributing to discussions on environmental policy and sustainable manufacturing.

INTRODUCTION
In an era where environmental sustainability is paramount, the Circular Economy (CE) has emerged as a transformative paradigm, challenging the traditional linear consumption and waste patterns that have long dominated our industrial landscape. This concept, which advocates for reducing waste, maximizing resource efficiency, and prolonging product lifecycles, has gained considerable momentum globally . The European Union (EU), in its pursuit of environmental stewardship, has progressively embedded the principles of CE into its regulatory fabric, marking a significant shift towards sustainable practices .
This research paper ventures into the intricate evolution of the CE concept within the regulatory frameworks of the EU, with a specific focus on Lithium-ion Batteries (LIBs) of electric vehicles (EVs). This type of batteries has become indispensable in powering the growing EV industry, a critical component in the shift towards sustainable transportation . Our investigation seeks to unravel the ways in which the EU has integrated CE principles into the regulation of LIBs, thereby influencing the trajectory towards a sustainable CE.
