1. Preliminary considerations
1.1 Objectives
Hazardous liquid discharges are a category of waste that is largely industrial in nature. They contain elements that are toxic to human health and/or the environment. Their hazardous nature is defined by article R. 541-8 of the French Environment Code.
By definition, a hazardous waste is "any waste which presents one or more of the hazardous properties listed in Appendix I of Article R. 541-8. They are indicated by an asterisk in the list of wastes in Annex II to this article.
There are two main strategies for managing liquid hazardous waste, depending on the objectives involved: disposal or recovery.
