3. Third-generation sequencing
The third generation of mass sequencing is symbolized by Single Molecule Sequencing (SMS) .
Unlike the second generation, no DNA (or RNA) amplification is required for sequencing. A single molecule is read. This means that RNA can also be sequenced without first having to be converted into complementary DNA.
