3. Industrial applications of monoi in the cosmetics industry
Monoï is sold in three forms:
pure packaged monoï ;
cosmetic products containing monoi (sun protection, tanning, maintenance and skin care products);
or in bulk, as a raw material used in the cosmetics industry.
On average over the last twenty years, bulk monoï accounts for 89% of export volumes, compared with 11% for pure packaged monoï, which generates little added value (figure 10 ). In the absence of a local cosmetics industry, monoi-based products account for a marginal share of exports.
