1.1 The origins
PDS is a Norwegian acronym for the reliability and safety of safety instrumented systems (SIS). The PDS method was developed by SINTEF in close collaboration with :
oil companies;
Process logic system suppliers and designers;
specialist organizations for control and safety systems.
It is used to quantify the unavailability of safety and loss of production for safety instrumented systems (SIS). Its principle is detailed in the PDS Method Handbook .
