3.1 Scheduled maintenance objectives

The objectives of scheduled maintenance are to achieve an effective aircraft maintenance policy. An effective maintenance program according to MSG-3 corresponds to a program that implements only those tasks necessary to achieve the set objectives. The objectives set out in MSG-3 are fully in line with those defined in the 1978 RCM document by Nowlan and Heap (see page XVI):
