3. Major health issues

Given that we spend around a third of our lives at work, there are few health problems that are not directly or indirectly influenced by working conditions. Providing an overall picture is therefore no easy task. All the more so as the way in which these problems are defined, and their hierarchy, depend on the point of view we adopt.

3.1 From the specialists' point of view

For specialists, the reference grid is medical and the entry point is a diagnosis. The regulatory notion of occupational disease is governed by tables defining the list of criteria for a pathology to be recognized as being of occupational origin. There are around a hundred tables, based on binary reasoning: either the pathology is due to work, or it is not.
