4. Conclusion
Basically, any inquiry, whether formal or informal, individual or collective, must respond constructively to two sources of tension, which operate both individually and within an organization.
The first is the tension produced by the gap between what we know and what we think we should know. Most so-called advanced societies have made a relatively rapid and radical shift from superstition to science as a means of satisfying this curiosity.
While we still find references in technologically advanced cultures to acts of God and other supernatural justifications for events we can't explain using scientific methods, the generally accepted trend is to look for causes in line with our new rationalist understanding of the world.
