9. Conclusion

Driver assistance systems are one way of reducing road accidents. Research and development in this field is very active in France, Europe and worldwide. The acceptability of these systems to drivers, and their impact on driving behavior and safety, are major concerns for designers. To be efficient, these highly complex systems need to be dealt with using systemic approaches, by multi-disciplinary teams capable of tackling the technical, human, regulatory and economic aspects.
