3. Vent sizing for high vapor pressure systems
High vapor pressure reaction systems are particularly well suited to venting reactors and other enclosures. These are tempered systems. Reaction runaway is easier to control. Reactions concerned include free-radical polymerization of reactive acrylic or vinyl monomers, latex production processes, and the manufacture of formo-phenolic resins. For these processes, venting is often necessary. As a result, vent sizing methods for high vapour pressure systems have been developed primarily by DIERS, and there are some historical or older methods that are worth knowing about, but which are no longer used today for sizing vent systems.
