4.1 Numerical simulation tools

The previous section detailed the equilibria that drive the dynamics of a fire, the movement of smoke and the occurrence of flashover in two specific situations. These are referred to as canonical because they provide a good understanding of the physical phenomena involved. However, the results cannot be used directly for real-life applications. Indeed, the temporal dynamics and geometry are incompletely taken into account. To go further, numerical models are used.
