2. Introduction to modeling tools

2.1 Traditional tools

Dependability engineers have a number of classic tools at their disposal for estimating the reliability of a system in compliance with international standards. ECSS applicable to space systems developed in Europe.

For example, this can be calculated analytically from a reliability block diagram, as shown in figure 2 . In this way, end-of-life reliability is obtained by means of a probabilistic calculation. Although effective, this method is limited to relatively simple systems, and will be more difficult to adapt to more complex systems.
