1. Definitions and vocabulary
It's very important to present a few basic definitions, defined in existing textile terminology standards (NF G00-001).

The term fiber is first and foremost a generic term for any kind of textile material (natural, artificial, synthetic...), and is therefore often used regardless of how the material is presented. More precisely, however, a fiber describes a discontinuous element defined by its length and diameter. For example, natural materials of plant origin intrinsically take the form of fibers whose length varies according to their origin (from a few millimeters to a few centimeters).
Chemical fibers can be used in the form of staple fibers, so that they can be mixed with natural fibers during the spinning process, for example, or processed using fiber-specific processing techniques (dry nonwovens).
