14. Winders

Coils are produced on double-station winders, except for very large diameter coils (jumbo size) which are produced and used on their own chassis.

There are two configurations of double-station winders:

  • winding alternates between front and rear stations. The web must be held by a web guide to ensure perfectly vertical side winding on each station;

  • the two reel positions are located on a barrel which rotates 180° each time the reel is changed, so that winding always takes place in the same position. This eliminates the need for a tape guide. What's more, this configuration enables automatic reel changeover.

The drive is either a constant-voltage asynchronous motor with frequency variation (flux vector control), or a hydraulic motor.
