5. Conclusion

Reactive extrusion has proved its worth in a number of fields, and has shown great potential, at least for reactions that are not very exothermic and are fast enough to be carried out during the limited residence times encountered in extrusion. The particular reaction conditions encountered in this process (concentrated medium, absence of solvent, high temperatures) open up new and interesting possibilities for the synthesis of new materials. The development of simulation tools, coupled with on-line characterization and control methods, will undoubtedly open up numerous applications and new prospects in the field of reactive extrusion in the years to come.
