3. Polymer flame retardancy
The flammability of a material is not an intrinsic property like its density or heat capacity . It can vary according to the conditions and scenario of combustion. For combustion to take place, three elements must come together to form the fire triangle (figure 12 ): a fuel (polymer in our case), an oxidizer (oxygen in the air) and a heat source (radiation, cigarette, flame, spark, short-circuit, etc.). A fire can then develop.
