Performance requirements vary widely, from the simple for jar seals to the extremely stringent for aerospace seals, as specified by the Bureau de Normalisation de l'Aéronautique et de l'Espace (BNAE).

The base elastomers used in the composition of the gaskets are selected from those listed in table 2 according to temperature and fluid resistance requirements.
