5. Predictive preventive maintenance methods
Predictive preventive maintenance is carried out following a forecast obtained from repeated analysis or known characteristics, and an assessment of the parameters significant for asset degradation. The main objective of predictive maintenance is firstly to predict when equipment failure might occur, and secondly to avoid the occurrence of failure by applying maintenance. The aim is to achieve the prognosis defined in ISO 13381 as "the estimation of the duration of operation before failure and the risk of the existence or subsequent occurrence of one or more failure modes".
