1.1 Method presentation

It was the aeronautical industry that pioneered the MSG (Maintenance Steering Group) method in the late 1960s, to define preventive maintenance programs for aircraft. This was the origin of RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance), developed in the USA for military aviation, and subsequently adopted and adapted by nuclear power plant operators. An IEC standard has adopted the principles under the French name of MBF (Maintenance Basée sur la Fiabilité - Reliability-Based Maintenance), to ensure wide distribution to all industrial sectors.
