1. Analysis of the value of maintenance work
The first step is to identify a representative sample of maintenance activities. For example, if the department carries out 80% of its work in corrective maintenance and the rest in preventive maintenance, then the analyses will be carried out on the same ratio.
In practical terms, the aim is to support maintenance technicians during their work in order to :
measure the rate of value-added (VA) and non-value-added (NVA) time;
identify actions to be taken to increase the rate of added value.
