INTRODUCTION
Expert Teleportation, a leading provider of remote assistance software for industry, was chosen by the EDF Group to implement the Intervenant Connecté project, which won first prize in the EDF Pulse 2018 internal competition, 1 er prize from the employee vote. Recently, EDF and Expert Teleportation also won the Award for Best Industrial Deployment as a startup pair –:
The aim of the project is to enable experts, using connected glasses and secure communication software for HD audiovisual transmission, to assist site workers in construction, commissioning tests, operation, maintenance, consultancy, expertise and all kinds of operations on industrial installations.
At a time when most highly technical interventions require rapid action, having the right expert at the right time is a strategic challenge for limiting industrial equipment downtime. The number of trained technicians is structurally insufficient to meet market needs.
The availability of equipment and expertise is a major issue for industrial companies; 82% of interventions are highly technical, and experts, who are a rare resource, waste a lot of time in transport before they can intervene.
There are serious skills shortages (+81% of industrial companies are going to have problems with qualified technicians retiring, 51% don't have up-to-date documentation, 75% are experiencing difficulties finding manpower, 87% are looking to reduce the cost of their travel). Today's communication tools only partially prevent travel. A phone call doesn't allow you to see a situation, a photo isn't interactive, a GoPro camera doesn't allow you to broadcast/discuss in real time, a smartphone with Skype doesn't allow you to have your hands free, etc.
Expert Teleportation enables experts to guide the hands of a technician in the field instantly and remotely. An expert can see a situation through the eyes of a technician via connected glasses, potentially thousands of kilometers away, as if he were there himself. The technician's hands are left completely free, and the expert can guide them from a distance, just as if he were in the technician's shoes.
This fully customized solution, based on a "Smart Glass READY" methodology, comprises three pillars: high-performance videoconferencing software, professional Internet connections, and a full range of services. Expert Teleportation relies on special expertise in connectivity, software optimization for ultra-high-performance use compared with other video-conferencing tools, ergonomics, and is also the only company in the world to fully customize connected glasses on the market. The technology has won over 20 awards in the last 18 months....
