7. Development of the "use value" concept

7.1 Situation

Today, usage is at the heart of information systems reengineering projects. While today's organizations are gradually recognizing the importance of thinking and planning in terms of usage value, the concept can sometimes seem nebulous.

Here is an initial theoretical definition:

"Quantified through the organization's business indicators, usage value represents the usefulness of a good, evaluated according to the use made of it by the end consumer. It is in their 'use value' that information systems unleash their true potential".
