4. DHL case study

4.1 Objectives, background

The DHL entities, subsidiaries of the Deutsche Post group, are merging under the single DHL banner and reorganizing a single network at the same time. The planned industrial reorganization consists of merging the Ducros and Danzas networks into the existing DHL network, and concentrating as much as possible in order to exploit synergies between the retained sites.

Courier, express, groupage and worldwide activities are grouped together. The master plan has been finalized, and the branches have been located and partly sized. The hubs have been positioned, but given the investment in equipment, their location and size are the subject of more detailed studies.
