Aggressive atmospheres are those which subject the device to degradation by corrosion or abrasion. Corrosion can be caused by acid vapors, but more often by run-off due to condensation or splashing. Water attacks metal parts all the more because it is usually loaded with mineral salts or acids.
Aggressive atmospheres are found mainly in the chemical, glass, building materials, metallurgy and food industries.
