3. Optimizing materials
As high permittivity materials are very complex, several parameters have an influence on their dielectric properties and can therefore be optimized to enhance their performance. The structure of the material's grains can be influenced, by increasing or decreasing their size, as well as by modifying their homogeneity. It is also possible to modify the electronic properties of grains and grain boundaries, thereby altering the characteristics of the polarization phenomena they experience.
At a microscopic level, the geometry of composites has a very great influence on the properties of the final material, and the chemical interaction between fillers and the polymer matrix can strongly modify this geometry, as well as their intrinsic properties.
