INTRODUCTION
This reasoned vocabulary lists – and briefly recalls their definitions – useful notions for an engineer confronted with a problem, both in terms of its mathematical modeling and its actual resolution (theoretical and numerical). Engineers may come into contact with mathematicians or mathematical articles whose language they need to understand, or they may carry out the study themselves, which will normally lead them to use some of the mathematical notions indicated here. The problems addressed are mainly concerned with functional analysis; this is particularly true of distributed systems, for problems involving partial differential equations, boundary conditions and initial conditions.
This vocabulary does not claim to be exhaustive, and of course has many gaps. To fill these gaps, we refer the reader to the articles in Sciences fondamentales, and to the bibliographical references given at the end of this article.
