WHO is the international directing and coordinating authority on health within the United Nations (194 member states). It is responsible for directing global health action, defining health research agendas, coordinating the use of standards and regulatory criteria, presenting evidence-based policy options, providing technical support to countries and assessing public health trends. It proposes and manages the major regulatory directions to be taken in the healthcare world, and coordinates information networks relating to major epidemics.
