3. Applications and implementation

3.1 Optimizing heat exchangers in reservoirs

Absorbing and desorbing 1 kg of hydrogen requires 10.4 kWh to be discharged or supplied to the system, respectively. Thermal flow management is therefore the main difficulty to be overcome in developing magnesium hydride tanks with high performance in terms of loading time and hydrogen throughput. Several instrumented prototype tanks have been designed to gain a better understanding of their behavior and validate numerical simulation codes for heat exchange and gas flow
