3. Water filtration
This micellar network is the active layer of a membrane whose pores are defined by the space remaining between the micelles. Although this active layer has good mechanical properties, a non-woven polyester mechanical support was required for the filtrations in order to maintain the network under pressure. From then on, the size of the starting micelles will guide the pore size, which has the advantage of simplicity compared with conventional membrane preparation techniques. Also, if the micelle size distribution is narrow and the micellar arrangement is compact, then the membrane can enter the very closed circle of isopore membranes (a single pore size), with the promise of high performance in separating objects of similar sizes. Finally, the compact organization of micelles leads to a pore geometry in the shape of an inverted double funnel, with the advantage of a much reduced constriction...
