4. Water efficiency strategy

4.1 Historical water management: meeting demand

Until now, water has not seemed to be a major issue (high availability, apparently low cost). Water management has mainly consisted of meeting demand, i.e. meeting the needs of users, by means of technical solutions upstream (e.g. new withdrawals, production of standardized water: demineralized, osmosed, etc.) and downstream (e.g. wastewater treatment processes) of production operations (figure 8 ).
