1. Structures providing investment in the water sector

1.1 Local authorities

By law (confirmed by law no. 2006-1772 of December 30, 2006), municipalities are responsible for drinking water and wastewater, as are their groupings or public establishments for inter-municipal cooperation (EPCI).

These can be broken down into :

  • single-purpose intercommunal syndicates ;

  • multi-purpose intercommunal syndicates ;

  • mixed syndicates ;

  • communities of communes ;

  • agglomeration communities ;

  • urban communities ;

  • territorial basin establishments*.
