3.1 General description of the "compact filter" system

A compact filter system comprises a primary treatment stage, generally carried out by an all-water tank (AWT), followed by secondary treatment by biological filtration.

It is not advisable to add a grease trap upstream of the septic tank, unless special conditions apply: length of pipes between the house outlet and the ETF greater than 10 m, slope less than 6% or presence of effluent with a high oil and grease content (e.g. commercial kitchens). In these situations, the device must be adequately sized and very well maintained.
