Bioindicator; Bioindicator
An indicator that can be represented by any living species (animal, plant or microbial) which, by its presence and state or absence, abundance or rarity, enables us to assess the biological characteristics of an environment.
Biodiversity; Biodiversité
Biological diversity covers all natural environments and life forms (plants, animals, fungi, bacteria, etc.) and their interactions. It comprises three interdependent levels: (i) the diversity of living environments at all scales, (ii) the diversity of species (including the human species) living in these environments, (iii) the genetic diversity of individuals within each species (French Ministry of Ecological Transition).
