4.1 New technologies
As with any technology, "meta-omics" techniques are constantly evolving, and new technological developments are emerging. For example, a new high-throughput microarray technology, called the Axiom Microbiome Array (HT-biochip), can detect species from complex samples. This contains probes designed to detect up to 12,000 species of virus, bacteria, fungi, protozoa and archaea, making it the most comprehensive microbial detection platform ever built.
