4.1 Managing natural spaces

Historically, the management of natural areas was the first field of application for ecological engineering. These include national and regional nature reserves, as well as the sensitive natural areas of the French départements.

These areas, which are subject to specific protection and/or management statutes, require maintenance, restoration or ecological rehabilitation. Managers must implement measures, sometimes innovative, aimed at restoring or maintaining these environments using specific tools. In most cases, these are former agricultural plots that are no longer compatible with the current production system. The manager therefore replaces ancestral agricultural practices.
