2. Methanization and greenhouse gases
2.1 Methanization principle
Methanization is an anaerobic digestion process used to convert organic matter into biogas and digestate (figure 4 ). It is carried out by a consortium of micro-organisms under anaerobic conditions (– 300 to – 330 mV/ENH), at a pH close to neutrality. Different temperature ranges can be applied, from 52 to 56°C in thermophilic mode, 35 to 40°C in mesophilic mode and 10 to 20°C in psychrophilic mode.
