Obsolescence is a social phenomenon that is accelerating with technological progress, and becoming increasingly important. It affects products, knowledge and know-how. It manifests itself in a wide variety of sectors. Its impact on industry, the economy, the environment and society can be significant, even critical.
This article begins by clarifying and formalizing the concept of obsolescence, with reference to current standards. It considered the different sources of obsolescence and its impact on the product, our economy and our environment.
