2. Typical mixing flows

The separation of climatic environments takes place at the interface between the two environments to be separated, for example the boundary between the general environment of a workshop and the controlled, localized environment around a product to be protected. In this zone, the flow can simply be represented, depending on the configuration, by two flows typical of free shear flows:

  • the mixing layer for the interface between two environments of different speeds;

  • the flat jet (or air curtain), widely used to significantly improve separation.

In this section, we limit ourselves to describing these two flows from a phenomenological point of view, and to giving the laws describing their mean behavior.
