3.1 Definition and characteristics

Particles can be defined as small inclusions suspended in a fluid. Particles can be of various natures and origins [G 1 710] : inert (such as dust) or living (bacteria or molds), but also solid or liquid (in the case of aerosols in particular), dry or sticky, or of mechanical, chemical, thermal or biological origin.
