5. Risks and impacts

Landfill sites are potential sources of gaseous and liquid effluent emissions, of very different quality and quantity, depending on the type of storage, climatic conditions, size and operating methods.

To assess potential impacts, we obviously need to consider exposure – and not just gross or net emissions – after treatment. To this end, it is necessary to quantify in terms of flows the various emission sources which, after transfer to the various environments, will produce the doses likely to generate significant effects in terms of impacts.
