8. Conclusion
Public information and participation carried by the Environmental Charter backed by the Constitution (art. 7) and by Law no. 2012-1460 of December 27, 2012 (JO of December 28, 2012) on the implementation of the principle of public participation will be strengthened in the future. As a result, the public (local residents, environmental NGOs, the media...) will become an increasingly major player in the indirect oversight of classified facilities.
It is already possible for anyone to access on the Internet prefectoral authorization decrees, non-technical summaries of impact and hazard studies, essential documents for public inquiries, as well as inspection reports on classified facilities. There's no doubt that all this information, which is essential to the operation, monitoring and control of classified facilities, will give rise to opposition, debate and consultation....
