The obsolescence of electronic components is an increasingly serious problem for the electronics industry. The short commercial lifespan of components, rapid technological and regulatory changes, and component shortages can lead to production stoppages for electronic equipment and systems, resulting in significant additional costs if these events are not anticipated. In particular, this situation forces equipment manufacturers to identify several sources of supply for the same component (multisourcing).
