 INTRODUCTION

Abstract

of the multitude of industrial activities, surface treatment is one of the largest water consumers and polluters. The literature reports a multitude of processes for decontaminating polluted water from surface-treatment industries such as precipitation, extraction, evaporation, electrolysis, cementation, ion-exchange, adsorption onto activated carbons, ultrafiltration, and reverse osmosis. However, for technological and economic reasons, many of the processes proposed cannot be used on an industrial scale. Thus, there is a need to develop new treatments. In this sense, a new cyclodextrin-based material containing ionic groups for adsorption-oriented processes alone as well as in combination with oxidation has been developped.

This project is the result of an original partnership between the Chrono-environnement laboratory in Besançon, two European institutes (the PROTMED institute in Bucharest and the Ronzoni institute in Milan), five manufacturers from the Franche-Comté region and the Agence de l'Eau Rhône Méditerranée & Corse. The project won an award at POLLUTEC HORIZONS in Paris in November 2011.
