7. Recycling of inert and non-hazardous waste

Building and public works waste in France represents 230 million tonnes (Mt) per year, or 70% of all waste in France. Since 93% of this waste is inert (unpolluted earth, rubble, concrete, bricks, tiles, etc.), the target set by the French Energy Transition Act is to recover 70% of this waste by 2020. We need to continue, and the challenge is to treat waste from the building industry (3% of all waste produced in France); this target will be reached in the next few years, despite the fact that 35,000 companies are craft businesses faced with difficulties in sorting, disposing of or collecting waste from specialized sites.
