6.1 Methanization of household waste using dry technology: AMÉTYST unit
The AMÉTYST methanization unit, inaugurated in July 2008, was installed to treat the household and similar waste of the 430,000 inhabitants of Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole. It is currently operated by the Suez group. It was designed for a technical treatment capacity of 173,000 t of waste per year, made up of 140,000 t of residual waste and 33,000 t of bio-waste collected from households.
